Junn Probes Link Between Education and Democracy in Sussman Lecture
Sussman Visiting Professor Jane Junn advanced a contrarian view in this year’s Sussman Lecture. Titling her remarks, “What Good Is Education for Democracy?” she invited the audience to suspend their disbelief and consider the possibility “that education might not always be the best thing for democracy.”

In this time of severe educational budget cuts, school superintendents nationwide are looking for answers on how best to lead their districts. From July 13th to 16th, a group of approximately 50 school superintendents from across the country and two from schools in Thailand and Hungary met at Teachers College to strengthen their roles as leaders.

This year’s Long Term Service reception was a time for the TC Community to personally greet honorees, sign individual cards, and enjoy desserts and fruit. The reception honored employees with full-time continuous service who have reached a milestone year of 15, 20, 25, 30, or 35 years effective July 1, 2002 through June 30, 2003. Sarah Phillips, Maggie Garnier Joseph, Michele Oberly, and Corine Best Campbell were on the Recognition Committee.
