Allegrante is President of Society for Public Health Education
Professor John Allegrante took office as president of the Society for Public Health Education for 1997-'98 at the Society's annual meeting in Indianapolis in November. The Society is an international, nonprofit professional organization that promotes health through education. It publishes Health Education & Behavior, a bimonthly peer-reviewed journal that includes research on critical health issues.

Elsa Bekkala, a doctoral candidate in art and art education, faced a moral dilemma as an artist and a person. Bekkala, who is also an instructor for Painting I and II in the Department of Arts and Humanities, was brought up in the tight-knit community of Hancock, Michigan, with its strong Finnish, Swedish, and Norwegian roots.
